What is the dMAT and Why is it Required?
The digital Master Test (dMAT) is a newly launched, standardized digital academic aptitude test designed by top German universities in collaboration with g.a.s.t. It is an essential step for admission into premier Master's degree programs in Germany.
Official Requirement
As of June 29, 2026, the dMAT has been officially integrated into the APS India verification process for selected graduate students.
Summer 2027 Onward
If you are applying for a Master's degree in Germany starting Summer Semester 2027 or later, your dMAT certificate must be submitted as part of your APS document packet.
Crucial Concept
The dMAT is not a traditional, theory-heavy exam like GATE or GMAT. It is an aptitude and transfer-of-knowledge test that measures logical reasoning and cognitive speed under pressure.
Who Needs to Take the dMAT?
The requirement does not apply to every master's applicant from India. Currently, the dMAT is mandatory for students who have done an undergraduate degree in the below mentioned disciplines:

APS Verification Criteria & Exemptions
Before preparing, verify whether your specific intake semester, degree level, and application timeline require the official dMAT score certificate.
The 3 Mandatory Conditions
You are required to take the dMAT only if you meet all three of the following criteria:

1Master's Degree Program You are applying for a postgraduate / Master's degree at a German university.

2Summer Semester 2027 Onwards Your targeted university intake is Summer Semester 2027 or any subsequent semester.

3Qualifying Bachelor's Field Your undergraduate degree belongs to one of the 7 specified disciplines: Engineering, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or Management.
Who is EXEMPT?
Many students are unnecessarily stressing about this exam. You do NOT need the dMAT if:
- You are applying for a Bachelor's degree or a PhD program in Germany.
- Your undergraduate degree is outside the affected fields (e.g., Standalone B.Sc. Computer Science, BCA, B.Sc. IT, Architecture, Pharmacy, Law, pure Sciences, Humanities, or Medical fields).
- You are applying for the Winter Semester 2026/27 intake.
- You completed your APS online registration or shipped your complete documents before June 29, 2026.
- You already hold a verified APS certificate.
- You are part of an officially confirmed exchange, double-degree, or university-partnership program.
The dMAT Exam Structure
The exam lasts 3.5 hours (including a mandatory mid-test break) and is conducted in English at authorized digital test centers across India.
